Client Best Practices: What to do When A Client Says They Need Audio

An image representing a message bubble

When someone comes to us and says they need audio for their game, we usually just say "ok, great!"

But, that kind of attitude won't get us very far with the best clients. When someone comes to you as a premium service provider, they often need a guide to help them through the process.

In other words, they don't want an asset cannon, they want an expert.

Imagine if you were a doctor. If someone said "my leg is broken" would you put a cast on it right away without asking a single question, or would you look at the leg to make sure it is, indeed, broken?

Exactly. We have to approach each client with the same mindset. Ask questions, see what the real issues are, and diagnose things from our expert point of view.

Once you understand what the real problems are, the choice between you, an expert willing to help, and any other generic freelancer becomes a no brainer in their mind.
